Treating colds naturally


There are several natural treatment options and home measures  which can be used to treat colds, we mention the following:


Honey: It is recommended to take honey in case of suffering from colds, because it has anti-viral and antibacterial properties. This helps to fight the infection that causes the common cold, in addition to its antioxidant properties, which is why honey is important to strengthen the immune system in fighting various infections, including colds, and honey can be used by adding two tablespoons of it to a cup of warm water or a cup of Green tea, and you can add lemon to it and then drink it, but it is worth noting that babies and young children should not be given honey, due to the possibility of it causing poisoning and serious health problems.


Chicken soup: It is recommended to eat chicken soup prepared by adding vegetables to the chicken during a cold, because vegetables and chicken have anti-inflammatory properties, which helps to inhibit inflammation in the bronchi.


Ginger tea: Eating ginger helps relieve cold symptoms, such as sore throat, pain, etc., and it can be taken by adding two teaspoons of grated ginger to a cup of hot water, and it is recommended to drink this tea two to three times per day.


Fluids: People with colds are advised to drink more fluids, especially water, juices, and soups, to prevent dehydration, and to help relieve some symptoms of the common cold, such as: congestion, and it is advised to abstain from alcohol and limit the intake of caffeinated drinks, such as Coffee: These drinks cause dehydration and make the symptoms worse.


Rest: People who suffer from the common cold are advised to take enough rest to help the body heal. Rinsing with water and salt: It is recommended to prepare a saline solution by adding a quarter to half a teaspoon of salt to a cup of hot water, then rinsing with it to relieve sore throat pain and soreness.


Garlic: Garlic contains the compound known as Allicin, which has anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. Garlic has been used since ancient times in the treatment of colds, and it can be eaten raw or added to chicken soups and cooking, and there is also what is known as garlic supplements, and it is worth noting that Garlic supplements are not given to pregnant women because they may increase the risk of bleeding, nor are they given to diabetics who are undergoing drug therapy because of the potential to lower blood sugar levels.
